White Kitchen Refresh – Small Changes, Big Impact!
I think it’s fair to say, I love our new White Kitchen. 🙂 If you’ve been following me for a while on Instagram and here on my blog, you know we did our kitchen makeover on a budget as well. I truly believe that everyone can have a beautiful home without spending a fortune. Check out how I recently changed things up a bit!
Like any true decorator…I LIKE change, I NEED change! Some days I want neutral, other days I want a pop of color. Lately, I’ve been craving simplicity. Decorating is a reflection of moods, seasons and let’s face it…Pinterest doesn’t help either! 🙂
Having a white kitchen is great because it goes with everything. One of my favorite features of the new kitchen is the open tile wall space on each side of the sink. It allows me to change the décor and try new looks. It’s my version of an open shelf, but it’s a little different which is what I love most! I added a chunky butcher block with brass feet on one side and it holds everything from artichokes to our French press coffee maker.
On the other side of the sink is a ready to use stack of dinner plates on a wood cutting board. Behind the plates, for height, I added an antique gold frame that I got for a couple of dollars at a yard sale. I love using vintage pieces for an unexpected bit of character. I think fresh plants or herbs in the kitchen is a must…just gives it that Home Sweet Home feel. So I have a small jade plant in a brass bowl for that pop of green that I love.
I loved the vintage Persian style runner we had in the kitchen, but I was wanting a pop of color. I bought this colorful one with splashes of orange, pink and navy. It was exactly what the space needed and it has the distressed look of a vintage piece. It’s also so comfortable underfoot! It comes in various sizes, but I purchased the runner here.
I like to change things up on the windowsill when I can, again…open shelving! I recently bought this antique scale at a yard sale and it had the perfect color scheme for the kitchen, black and brass! Definitely goes with the Industrial Vintage theme I have going on in the space.
I love to change up the décor on the Kitchen Island. I wanted to simplify the look so I added a large glass jar and branches. The glass immediately gives a lighter look to the space. I found a beautiful wood bowl on clearance (Score!) and simply added some flour sack towels and wood spoons. Some of my favorite stores to shop for glass bottles and accessories in general, are Homegoods and TJ Maxx. Their selection AND their prices are amazing. Here’s a tip…if it’s a beautiful piece, great price but you’re not sure where you’d use it…get it…you’ll thank me later! When it’s time to “Shop the House” you’ll be happy you bought it! 🙂
I’m loving this “season” of my kitchen. It has touches of Industrial, Vintage, Farmhouse and a bit of an eclectic Boho feel. By adding elements of wood, a touch of color and a few accessories I’ve been able to give my kitchen a new look. Shop your house, check the clearance sections, splurge on a new rug or another item that will make a large impact. Have fun rearranging and changing things up. Remember, it’s a refresh, not a makeover…but even small changes can make a big difference!
