Spring Decor Whites Woods and a Touch of Color
Spring is in the air and I’m joining a few of my favorite Home Decor Bloggers for a Spring Home Love Blog Hop, to show you some of the ways we’re putting a little Spring in our step and even more in our home! If you’re joining me from Farmhouse For Five, Welcome!! Be sure to follow the links at the end of this post, to see what my other friends have done. So let’s see how I incorporated a little bit of Spring Decor in our home!
Lately, I seem to be of the mindset “Less is More” and as always I’m looking for ways to shop the house and design on a budget. While I love using color in my decor, I’m also a big fan of neutrals, nature and of course texture. One recent change I made to “lighten” things up is paint our foyer and add some woods, textures and a touch of color. What do you think?
I painted the wall a bright white…if you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love painting! 🙂 NOT!!! But I did it anyway because the results were worth it. Added a sleek wood bench, you know the ones you see people posting and they look so cool so you hope you find one! I did and I grabbed it quick. My husband of course said…”Is it supposed to look this way?” Yes, dear it is. 🙂 I added the faux fur rug from Homegoods, gorgeous demijohn for more yummy texture, stylish lantern from Target and lavender faux flowers for that touch of color. The mirror added an eclectic touch to the space and is great for that last minute “How do I look” check, before running out the door. My foyer is now functional, light and bright and has a touch of Spring style. The palette is neutral enough to change with a simple stem…literally!
Another area I changed up was the back porch. I did a complete makeover on the space last fall for the One Room Challenge, you can see the transformation here. We use this space so much living in Florida, and Spring, of course, is one of the best times! The whole family has used it for lounging, relaxing and entertaining! So for that touch of Spring Decor, I added more color, particularly blue pottery and blue glass with pops of hot pink. My new favorite combo. I layered on more colorful throws and pillows to liven up the color scheme. While pops of color may be subtle inside, outside is a different story! 🙂
One of my favorite recent finds from a local shop was this wood birdcage. One of the many things I love to collect. I figured nothing says Spring more than birdcages. Right? I added more blue pottery and touches of hot pink with flowers, all layered on top of my chippy farmhouse dresser.
So the last stop on the Spring “tour” is the kitchen. It is definitely the most popular place in our home and I spend lots and lots of time here. You can see the budget friendly makeover we did last year here. I will say, having a white backdrop makes decorating and redecorating so easy. With some small changes and creative pops of color and decor you can give a space a whole new look!
Again, I wanted to add pops of blue (navy in particular), hot pink goes so well with blue…and of course greenery is the Pantone color of the year, so I had to add some of that! 🙂 The biggest change though was adding more WHITE! White makes everything better.
How beautiful are these stools? I love how they look and how much brighter the space is now. They are so comfortable and my kids love the spinning action…so does my husband but don’t tell him I told you! 😉 I had been looking for new white stools for a while and though these had somewhat of a modern look, they are perfect for the blend of modern and vintage that I love. If you are on the hunt for stools, give these a try. It was one of those changes that didn’t cost a lot but gives you a big impact. Also, you won’t believe how good the price is and the quality is amazing! I’ve linked them here for you. If you use the code COSTWAYSTOOL, you can get $10 off your order.
Now let me show you what other small changes I made.
I love artwork in the kitchen. I have, to be honest, though…sometimes old artwork or paintings freak me out. 🙂 So I had to find something or someone I liked…meet Scarlett. When I was younger I saw the movie, Girl With the Pearl Earring and it stuck with me. I always loved this picture and I found it on a canvas. I didn’t want to frame it and with my tile I wouldn’t have been able to hang it so easily if it was framed. So I used a Nate Berkus Jumbo Paper Clip and some removable mounting tape. Voila! I love the funky look and Scarlett has a little gold to go with her pearls. 🙂 It’s really one of my favorite new pieces. Big impact, low cost. Notice, she also has the blue tones I love and she matches so well with the basket below.
Another way to add an instant pop of color is through rugs, candles, and linens. An easy and affordable change. I got a great deal on this runner from Rugs, USA. I’m loving the pop of hot pink here!
While nothing can compare to the real thing…a good faux eucalyptus or other greenery does the trick.
And here’s a little blue with a touch of texture provided by this beautiful basket. Linens from Target.
Another favorite area I love to decorate is on this side table in the kitchen. I simply added some of the BEST faux tulips ever from Michael’s, seriously the best…they even feel real!!! My lovely artichoke from Homegoods, a few copper pieces, and simple greenery. I love the old European charm it has!
Of course, I can’t leave my table out. One of my favorite areas to change up and I really do…is our farmhouse table. I recently got the coolest vintage bushel basket, from one of my local shops. It’s big and beautiful!! I just imagine the fruits, flowers, and vegetables that filled it years ago. I filled it with a few of my favorite branches and it just says Spring to me. Like I went into my blooming garden, cut some beauties down and put them in my basket! Does it say that to you? Haha! A simple and fresh focal point.
You can see where I snuck some more navy in with my table cloth turned runner. I love it against the wood.
So my Spring Dcor, in a nutshell, is White, Woods, Pinks and Blues with a touch of greenery…and don’t forget the texture!! I hope you’ve enjoyed these peeks into our home. If you’d like to see more photos be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest and of course here on the Blog for more DIY’s and Inspiration. Don’t be intimidated to move things around, shop your house and maybe buy a small item or two. Remember, small change…big impact. 🙂 Be sure to go to Honey N Hydrangea next and then on to all the other great blogger’s joining me on the Spring Home Love Blog Hop.
