Shop The House Design Challenge – Fall Edition, Week 2
It is week 2 of the “Shop the House” Challenge. My talented friends and I challenged ourselves to redecorate an area of our home for 4 weeks, using only items we already have! A chance to redecorate and change things up? Ok! You don’t have to ask me twice! I chose our dining room table which is in the heart of our home! You can see how it looked last week here. Check out how I changed things up and gave it what my daughters called an Old European Look. 🙂
So the first thing I did was clear the table from last week and get my blank slate. I had recently found a linen scarf at Target that had great indigo hues and white with a fringed edge. Frankly, I fell in love with it as a runner for my table. So I bought it and decided it was time to use it…Layer 1. Here is a Tip: Try and use things in different ways, repurpose an item…decorating is using your creativity!
Now it was time to add a centerpiece. I had this gorgeous basket from World Market and I decided that it would be the perfect focal point for this tablescape. I love the height, the color and the little sign on the front “Product of France.” I’m always thinking texture, texture, texture! I love how it looks here…almost like it should be on a table in the French countryside. Now it’s time to add more layers.
I always like adding some element of “produce” as I call it… whether it’s flowers, fruits or vegetables on the table. In this case, it was an artichoke. It’s kind of Fall like right? 🙂
I wanted to add more elements of texture so I added this wood board from TJMaxx, great for display and serving purposes. I tossed in a few antique silver butter knives because the patina just added instant age and character to the table setting.
I needed to balance things out on each end of the basket so I added a vintage mixed metals pail I picked up a long time ago at a favorite antique shop. I filled it with some fringed napkins with silver rings I was hanging onto.
Time to finish the look…I added a few silver and brass candlesticks on both sides. Again, adding instant character due to the patina. I never polish my pieces because I love the aged look. A few pretty blue bottles on the other end with a splash of Fall for height! And lastly, I added a couple of vintage silver salt and pepper shakers because they are just too cute!
So there you have it. Tablescape #2…my Old European Farmhouse Table! I may have had to walk around the house a bit to get what I needed but that just added steps to my Fit Bit! HaHa and it saved a lot of money!
Take a tour of your own home and see if you have a vase, a basket, or a candleholder that may just need to have a turn in another spot. It’s a great feeling when you can rearrange and get a new look without spending a dime!
Be sure and check out my friend’s blogs, to see what their Second Week looks like!
Also, you can join in on the fun and post your Shop The House looks on Instagram using the #Shopthehouse tag! We’d love to see it!
