One Room Challenge Week 3 Vintage Chic Eclectic Retreat
It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge, which means we’re halfway there!! For those, just joining me…Welcome! I’m taking an outdoor room and creating a relaxing Living Space…fit for family, friends, entertaining and quiet time! If you follow me on Instagram you’re probably up to date as to what’s been going on, if not, you can click on these links to see Week’s 1 and 2. Now let me share the latest.
Here is a pic of the space from this past summer. It was cute and cozy but it was definitely a back porch and we didn’t really use it to it’s full potential. My goal with this makeover is to create a “Room.” Again, being in Florida we can use outdoor spaces longer than most. My favorite months are just ahead.
I won’t show you too many details because that would spoil the final reveal and the final reveal is my favorite thing! 🙂
Let’s start by reviewing what’s been done on the To-Do List!
- Get main seating for Lounge Area.
- Set up wall of windows and paint the trim. (You’ll have to see what I mean with this one) 🙂
- DIY chandelier.
- Make over Industrial Cart.
- Install Storage, ceiling fans and outdoor speakers.
- Create outdoor curtain system, better than current one.
- Make and organize a potting shed table that is both pretty and functional.
- Add a little whimsy.
- Decorate, accessorize, add rugs and bring the whole concept together.
Thankfully Mr. BeesNBurlap is a willing and talented handyman and I could never do these projects without him. And he says it best…”You design, I’ll engineer.” Best advice for DIY couples ever!!! 🙂
Here is a look at the outdoor sectional we got from Amazon. By getting it after the Summer Season, I was able to get it at a GREAT price. If you’re interested in buying one, now is the time!! To make it even easier, I’ve included the link here. Trust me, when I say I looked for a while and I’m thrilled with the one we found. I wanted one with a dark frame and white cushions. I also wanted one that would fit the whole family and it does. Super comfortable and FREE Shipping!!
One thing that has always bugged us is since moving in, is that the original owners had the porch wired for sound but they left large holes in the ceiling. Typically people would put speakers there, but I guess they wanted the “black hole” look! It only took us, well… I won’t say how long we’ve been here…but I’m thrilled to say we have speakers. That’s the great thing about these challenges…it pushes you to get spaces and projects done that have been on the back burner for a while. I’m so grateful to Mr. BeesNBurlap for installing these. Now we can have the music on inside the first floor and it will continue outside whether on the back porch or even sitting around the fire pit. I will say playing music makes doing all my other projects a lot more fun! In case you have big holes in your ceiling that also need speakers 🙂 …these were a great price, great sound and easy to install! I’ve included a link for you to view them here.
And here they are installed!
Remember that wall of windows I talked about. Though the area is screened in, adding windows would be quite a project. Our view is beautiful living in a pine forest and I didn’t want to detract from it, but I was looking for a way to add a little more shelter from the Florida Thunderstorms we get. I found 5 glass doors at my favorite thrift shop and the man who own’s it gave me a great deal. I got all 5 incredibly heavy doors for $75. We hinged them together and they provide great protection while leaving the view intact.
A little paint made them even better.
Ok, so all in all not bad for 3 weeks into this project. I have plenty to do but the weather is getting a little cooler out, I have my music playing and the best crew around to help me. I can’t wait to share my other projects and ideas with you. I hope the sources and links I’ve provided help you…I am all about finding the bargain, so believe me when I say I looked for the best deals! I also hope to inspire you to look at a space you may have and with a few changes, create a retreat of your own!
I would love for you to follow me on Instagram, Pinterest and sign up for my emails here on the blog so you don’t miss an update and you can see some of my other Interior Decor and Design projects!
