One Room Challenge, Urban Chic She Den – Walls and Windows
Hey everyone!!! Did you see what I’m working on for the latest One Room Challenge??? If not, go back to Week 1 here and catch up. 🙂 Thanks again to Linda at Calling it Home and House Beautiful for sponsoring!!! Let’s see what’s new!!!
Ok…so many times I get asked the question…How do you start a project like this? Where do you begin? So I figured this would be a great way to share what I do and also make it fun for you!!
Step 1.
Pick your space. Whether indoors or out, choose the space you want to work in to create a more functional and fun space for your family.
Step 2.
Look at Inspiration pictures, screenshot images and products that you love. See if there is a theme to what you like and try to narrow it down. Look at the shapes, colors, textures, and styles of the inspiration pics and items you’ve saved.
Step 3.
Start shopping! Be sure to measure, not once but twice. 🙂 Save yourself some time.
Remember this gorgeous inspo pic from last week!
Of course, there are a few steps in between, but these are the basics. For instance, I had to clean out the space I chose. That took longer than anything else I’ve done. I mentioned that this room once had a purpose but over time it became my decor storage and hoarding room and it was full to the brim! I listed a ton of stuff on Facebook Marketplace, donated some to GoodWill and the pieces I wanted to keep for sure were then stashed in boxes and ended up all over my living room.
Here are a couple of photos from the room in the earlier days when it was decorated and pretty and like I said…whimsical.
It was a pretty room back in the day! 😉
My family is always so patient and awesome during these makeovers because the house is really a nightmare during the process! But they know it will be worth it in the end. 🙂
Now on to some of the new stuff! Remember, I wanted to make this creative process fun so I’m asking you to design your own She Den (or other space) using My Top Picks! I also want to see how well you know me, by choosing what you think MY final choices were. To make this a true reveal, I’m not going to share my final picks with you until the end!! All these images will be on my ORC Pinterest Board if you want to follow along and create your own board.
Now that the room is cleaned out, the best place to start is from the top and that means the Walls! I had a really pretty paint color in the room called Pewter that was a grayish/purple and I loved it. Remember, I mentioned this room had a whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme to it…it was fun and colorful, but now it was time to go. Here is a pic of the walls as the decor was coming down…the dreaded Ugly Before Pics. This pic was taken at nighttime so the lighting is even worse.
I could paint the room, but I wanted to add more dimension. I did my first Wallpaper project during my Laundry Room ORC and it turned out amazing. So I decided to add some Wallpaper to the She Den. Milton & King Wallpaper has some of the most beautiful papers I’ve ever seen. It’s not your Grandma’s wallpaper anymore! 😉
In fact, I had a hard time choosing which direction I wanted to go.
I wanted drama, yet still wanted the room to be neutral. I wanted it to have a Chic and timeless look, but I also love a pop of color. So many decisions! I debated on having up to 2 different styles as well. See why choosing was a challenge? Because of the selection… M&K Wallpapers didn’t make it easy, but here are my Top Picks.
Time to Design
1. Which one or two would you use in your space?
2. Which one or two do you think I chose?
Here are the styles and links to the papers above.
Canyon, Whitewash Bricks, Floss Delight, Tulip Seeds , Lubeck Bricks , Marble & Copper Tiles, Marble , Thirteen O’Clock
Did you know that M&K have Murals as well? As if I wasn’t having a hard enough time choosing just wallpaper…I discovered these. I had one wall in the room that would work well with a mural. I thought it might be the perfect bit of whimsy, drama, and design all in one. Here are my top 3 choices…but they have so many to choose from.
Your turn again…
1. Which one would you use in your space?
2. Which one do you think I chose? If I chose one. 😉
Here are the links to the murals above.
A Jovial Afternoon , Friday, Mt Tsukuba Mist
Now that the walls were done. I turned my attention to the windows. This room faces the West side of the house and it gets the best afternoon light. It has 3 windows. Here is another Ugly Before pic as the room was being taken apart.
The question was do I do shades, curtains, shutters? Ok, here is one hint. I chose curtain panels and I wanted them long and drapey. This is a She Den right? 🙂
Here are my Top Picks from Bed Bath & Beyond. You know what to do.
1. Which one would you choose for your space?
2. Which one do you think I chose?
I’ve included the links to these items below.
White Ruffle, Spiral Grommet, Shadow Panel , Sheer Panel , Striped Curtain
One thing I love about shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond is the Beyond+ Membership. It gives you 20% off your orders for a year, plus free shipping. If you want to see some of the great items they carry check out my Living Room New Year Decor Post, I was very surprised at all the items you can get…and with 20% off!!!
Ok, so what do you think? It’s not so easy putting a whole room together, is it? When I first started doing this I gained the utmost respect for designers. Trying to imagine all the parts and pieces together in a room without even seeing them is harder than most people think. Hopefully joining me, and taking this week by week will help you with your own projects!! Please leave me any comments or questions you may have below. I know I just skimmed the surface on some things.
I’m so excited to be working with these great sponsors Bed, Bath & Beyond, Joss & Main, Milton & King , Lamps Plus and Rugs USA. I’ll also be sharing some small shops and artists with you along the way.
I hope you follow along with me on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and here on the Blog to see the progress each week. I can’t wait to see what you design for yourself…and what you choose for me, at the end. Be sure to see what all the other bloggers are doing as well by visiting the One Room Challenge official site.
See you soon!
