Kitchen and Flooring Renovation REVEAL!! Industrial, Vintage, Modern and More!
Well, the time has come. Finally. I didn’t think I’d survive. Renovations are not for the faint of heart…I’ll tell ya! Come see how we took lemons and made lemonade…some really good lemonade!! 😉
So as you may or may not know…we had a refrigerator that decided to die and leak all over our kitchen floor one night. Because we had a laminate floor it didn’t go well. Fast forward over a year and I finally decided it was time to do something about it and take on what I knew would be a big job.
First came the planning.
1. What style do I want to go with?
2. What materials do I want to use so I never have to do this again?
3. How extensive are we going to take this reno?
My best advice is to take your time with these questions. I thought about it, I doodled, I dreamt, I pinned pics, I did it all. Then start shopping, see and touch the materials if you can and read reviews!! Once I decided what I wanted and then changed my mind a few times, I was set.
I am very proud to have partnered with Lumber Liquidators , Hanstone Quartz , HKLivingUSA and Overstock to create not only a beautiful but functional and timeless space.
First Up…Floors!
For the flooring, I wanted something that would last and stand the test of time. Timeless in style and would withstand any more water leaks. I narrowed my selection down to 3 products from Lumber Liquidators. We had been hearing so much about the new vinyl planks that were water resistant, but ultimately we went with porcelain tile. We decided on the Smoked Whiskey Oak wide plank “wood” look tile. Let me tell you…everyone that sees it is in love. The character, the variations in each tile…are amazing! The wide and extra long plank size make you feel like you ripped the wood flooring out of an old barn or industrial building. Both scenarios make my heart happy!
The folks at Lumber Liquidators were so good to work with. I left with lots of samples, they helped me narrow down my selection and when it came to delivering everything they were so easy to work with. It can be overwhelming and yet they made the process fun and enjoyable!
Mr. BNB keeps saying how much he loves the floors…the kids say how much they love the floors, even the installer said how much he loves the floors!! I can’t tell you how much I love them! Solid, beautiful and they have the coolest look and style! You have to check these out if you’re in the market for new flooring! Lumber Liquidators has everything from tile, to vinyl, to wood and more!!! And their prices were ridiculously good…I checked around, trust me! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them and their products! More pics of this gorgeous floor as the reveal continues!!
By the way, if you live in the Central Florida area, I can’t say enough about ArtTile1 for installation! He was in Mr. BNB’s words…meticulous! 😉
Let’s Talk Countertops
You know the saying, one thing leads to another. Well…due to the way the Kitchen Island was installed, we ended up having to replace the top, which in turn meant replacing all the countertops.
We had black granite countertops and they were so easy and low maintenance with a family. But if I had the opportunity to change them…well I was going to make a CHANGE! I had heard about Hanstone Quartz so I did some research and fell in love with their low maintenance, beautiful Quartz countertops. Again, I was overwhelmed but they were so helpful and walked me through the process. They even helped me get connected with a local fabricator for the installation. I got samples and thought I had made my choice. Keyword being thought…
Definitely, see the slabs in person! You cannot make this decision off of a sample. I worked with the folks at ADP Surfaces in Orlando, FL for the fabrication and installation. I went down to their facility and looked at the products in person…in large slabs. After seeing the large pieces, I completely changed my mind. I decided to go with the Hanstone Quartz in Montauk …looks like marble and it’s the perfect tone of white with a touch of gray. It has a European classic look to me.
This was the Quartz I thought I wanted. It’s called Strato…bright and beautiful with flecks of gold and copper.
But then I saw this beauty…It’s called Montauk and I knew instantly it was the one. Has a marble look that I love.
The best part is that Quartz won’t stain or etch like marble. Win/Win!!! Be sure to check out Hanstone Quartz …they have so many colors to choose from! I can’t tell you how much I love these new countertops!!!
If you are in the Central Florida area…use ADP Surfaces for your countertop installation. They went above and beyond installing ours. I couldn’t be happier. To have contractors show up when they say they will AND take pride in their work is a rare thing to find these days! Hanstone Quartz and ADP Surfaces made what I designed in my head come to life!
Talk About an Accent Wall!
So with all the changes taking place, I decided why not make a few more! I decided to open up the kitchen even more and add a floor to ceiling tile accent wall. During the first kitchen reno back in 2016, I took off two upper cabinets and while my family thought I was crazy they loved it afterward. This time, when I said take them all down they really thought I was nuts. But once again, they trusted my vision and loved the results!!
I wanted a timeless look, with character and yet something different enough to express MY STYLE! In came this beautiful hand made ceramic tile from Spain. Sorry, I had to say that…makes them sound fancy right? 🙂 Haha! These tiles have a handmade organic shape…reminiscent of something you’d find in an old European building. The grout we chose was Oyster Gray (has a taupe stone color) and I wanted it b/c it added to the aged look I was going for. If I went with white it wouldn’t show off the design as well and charcoal would look too modern. This was a soft yet defined look and I couldn’t be happier.
Removing the Cabinets Opened Up the Space
We decided to go with a Waterfall leg and love how sleek it looks now.
What do you think? I love how open everything is and how the windows and view of the pine forest are even more of a focal point in the room!
Let’s Talk Decor
Now that the heavy duty stuff was done, it was time to make some other “important” decisions… like lighting, wallpaper, and furniture. You know how much I love HKLivingUSA…it’s no secret! 😉 I could fill my house with their beautiful products. When I saw these brass workshop lights, I knew they would be the perfect industrial touch for the new look! They are big, bold and beautiful. They come in other colors as well, but I needed the brass ones. Needed them I tell ya! 😉 I can’t get over how gorgeous they are in here.
Because this new space would reflect so many styles I love from Industrial to Vintage, Mid Century Modern to Scandinavian, and more. I decided to add another element of texture and pattern to the space with wallpaper but I wasn’t sure just what it would be. I came across this vinyl Cherry Blossom wallpaper from HKLivingUSA and I was sold! It was the perfect mix of modern and retro with a classic Asian element. I love that it’s subtle, yet totally sets off the doorway and this corner of the kitchen. I also mixed in some gorgeous retro inspired pottery pieces from HKLivingUSA. I told you I could fill my home with their stuff!
Again, mixing styles, patterns, and textures are what give a space character. Don’t be afraid to mix and match and try things you may not have thought to try. You just might find it’s the element that has been missing all along. 😉
Bringing it All Together!
Last but not least, let’s not forget the dining area. I wanted a clean look that showed off the new changes. While many of you know how much I love mixing up my dining chairs…I decided having 6 of the same chair in a bright white would be best here. These Poly and Bark chairs from Overstock were exactly what the space needed. They are sleek and compact, but comfortable to sit in for a long dinner with friends. I love the pop of white they add and again…the texture!!!
Mixing the modern Scandinavian style chair with my rustic wood table is exactly what this space needed!! I even added this striped runner from Overstock for another touch of decor…black and white AND stripes…what could be better! These pieces from Overstock were exactly what I needed to finish off the space and complete the look I was going for.
Well, that’s it! That’s a wrap on our reno!!! Again I couldn’t have done it without the wonderful people at Lumber Liquidators, Hanstone Quartz, ADP Surfaces, HKLivingUSA, Overstock and Arttile1!!! You all amaze me from your products to your service. From my family to you…Thank You!!!

Just wanted to say that your kitchen is beautiful – I came via link on IG, because what caught my eye were the countertops as they looked the same as ours and I was curious if they were the same. Almost!! We did choose the Strato Hanstone, while you ended up with the Montauk. We love our Hanstone countertops too!!
