Junking for Treasures!
So yesterday I found myself with a few bags of “unnecessary” items and off to my local GoodWill I went. I don’t know about ya’ll but I actually get antsy if I don’t go thrifting or junkin’ every once in a while. 🙂 Why is it that some of my friends never have this “need” but I do. Even my oldest daughter will say…I feel like going junkin’! Mama raised her right! So I wanted to share a few of my tips. I have a good lay of the land in my local GW store and I immediately scan the New/Defective items that come from stores like Target, Walmart, etc. Sometimes you can find amazing items like Nate Berkus decor, brand new kitchen appliances like a Ninja Blender for a fraction of the retail cost and even designer clothes. Typically there isn’t anything wrong with these items, they are just cycling them out or they were an open box return.
You can always return them to GW for a refund, so you really have nothing to lose. Be sure you find out where this section is in your GoodWill… who know’s what you’ll find.
I proceeded to check out the glassware and china section, you can find a lot of goodies there. I got some beautiful detailed glass bowls and a unique Mason Ball Jar container with glass lid (see photo). This is also where I find pretty vintage floral plates to add to my collection…a couple at a time. Then I move on to the metals…I am a huge collector of old silver and brass. I have found trays, bowls, candlesticks, even a silver Leonard Urn for only $4.99!!
I took a turn around the lamps and lighting section, nothing today but always good to look. Then lastly I scanned the books. Books are a staple for me in decor. Look for covers that have neutral colors (black, gray, beige and especially white). I’ve even found some very collectible ones but that is for another post. 🙂
