Gallery Walls 1-2-3
Do you scroll through Pinterest looking at Gallery Walls and wonder “how did they do that” or “why can’t I get my wall to look like that” or better yet do you get all intimidated and just not try? Ok, well again I’m not an expert, but I do love Gallery Walls. If you’ve followed me on Instagram you may have seen a few of mine. The wonderful thing about Gallery Walls is that they can be ever-changing reflections of your mood, style, stage in life and more. You can make them as big or personal as you want. Let me share with you a few of my tips when creating one and I hope it helps you. 🙂
First, choose a wall. This can be a narrow one like in an entry way, a larger one in the family room or perhaps a nook in the kitchen…the choices are endless because these are so versatile. Note, you may not want more than one in a large room because it may feel and look a bit cluttered. Once you’ve selected the space to work on, think about what you want it to say, how do you want the space to feel. In my side entry way, I have a collection of vintage items with a few pretties splashed in. This works well within the space because the entire room it leads into has a similar feel. I didn’t want it too cluttered and I didn’t want it to be a wall of family photos. I have those on another wall.
Choose a large statement piece, something you love and want to look at often. For me on this wall, it is my vintage London Bus Roll I got off Etsy. I love this piece because it encompasses numbers, a bold black and white color scheme and hey it’s Vintage!! Another special piece that I love to look at and will probably never change is my Antique Scale Front.
Some people lay their Gallery Wall choices out on the floor to get an idea of how they want to lay it out. Sometimes, I just need to hold them up on the wall and get a feel for it. Here is a tip…use push pins. They create a very small hole and you would be amazed at the amount of weight they can hold. Don’t try hanging your priceless antique mirror with it, but if you are creating a template of sorts…these little guys are a lifesaver. Then once you have the placement of everything figured out, use the appropriate hardware to hang your items.
I always tell people to find items of different sizes, textures and style to give your Gallery Walls the most character. I have pieces that are heavy and dark and I have pieces that reflect light and sparkle. I have items of sentimental value and pieces that will eventually be changed out when the mood strikes me. There really is no right or wrong way to create these, create what you love, what makes you happy. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! ~Holli
