They Don’t Make Stairs or Staircases Like They Used To!
Growing up in the South and watching Gone With the Wind everytime I was home sick from school, I’m in love with architectural details! It’s those details that give a home its character and charm. I talked about one architectural detail I love, in this earlier post. Now it’s time to talk about another one. Can you guess what it might be?
Who doesn’t remember the infamous scenes of Rhett and Scarlett on the grand staircase, walking up, walking down, standing on them and oh yes, even falling down? But you couldn’t help but be in awe of the winding, grand staircase and all its glory.
Now, most homes today cannot even accommodate such a grand piece, and frankly, I couldn’t even imagine vacuuming such a beast. 😉 But we are all still drawn to stairs, aren’t we? I know I’d love to change mine up a hundred different ways.
It used to be that your options were carpeted or not? Now you have so many choices and options to consider.
Designs
Stairs don’t just go up and down anymore. They have shapes and designs, did you know that?
Winding Stairs
Straight Stairs
Spiraling Stairs
Styles
After you decide what direction you want them to go, you have even more decisions to make. What material do you want to use? Metal, Wood, Composite material? You dream it up and I’m sure it’s out there. You can Plan, Build and even Buy your stairs online.
What color or colors do you want them to be?
How about a handrail? Gone are the days of just using a wood railing.
You can even make the stairs seem like they are suspended on nothing and fit them into some of the smallest spaces.
If you’ve been looking for wood staircases for sale…or metal and other materials I hope this post has given you some inspiration.
It’s amazing the choices we have today. Yes, I would give anything to glide down the infamous staircase that Scarlett used. But then again, maybe she would love to have one of our modern suspended on nothing staircases or a fun metal spiral one to run up and down? You have to admit looking at these images that the options are endless and actually a lot of fun!
Which one would you choose? Go ahead and dream…design and have fun with adding some cool architectural character to your home!! I’ve even found a resource for DIY kits and to buy stairs online! Yep…I’m going to start dreaming about mine! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I’d love for you to follow me on Instagram, FB, Pinterest and here on the Blog for more inspiration, budget-friendly DIY’s and good for you daydreaming!!
See ya soon!
